GIG 2026 - LAST Call For Visual Artists
It is LAST CALL, folks! We have a couple of slots left for GIG 2026. If you have been waiting to send us your submission, now is the time.
Submissions run until March 1, 2026
Selected visual artists will show between one and three pieces during GIG 2026, which will be held on Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, as part of the city’s beloved Sounds & Sights Festival, presented by Rick Taylor | Reinhart Realtors
In Memoriam
We were shocked and saddened to learn about the passing of Detroit photographer Scott Millington. He was a fabulous visual artist and, more importantly, a kind and generous person. His love for Detroit was infectious, and it showed in his work. It was an honor to have Scott be part of GIG in 2024. We will miss his boundless enthusiasm and remarkable talent.
His family and friends are celebrating his life on Wednesday, February Feb 25th, starting at 3 pm at Meantime (3409 Cass Ave, Detroit). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Six Feet Over in Scott’s name using this link:

Live Painting by Ari Franklin at Sounds & Sights
We are thrilled to announce that Ari Franklin will be doing live painting during the music performances at the Sounds & Sights festival on Saturday. If you came out for GIG 2025, you probably saw Ari working their magic during the music. Using the melodies, harmonies, and rhythms of the music, they craft one-of-a-kind images.
If you want to experience Ari’s artwork, stop by their studio at ART 634 in Jackson. Or come out to a Manchester Underground concert at the River Raisin Distillery, where they will be doing live painting at each upcoming show.
Greater Detroit Music Census!!
If you are within 75 miles of Detroit, the Greater Detroit Music Census is for you. The census is open to visual artists, musicians, venue and recording studio staff, booking agents, music educators, and essentially everyone involved in Detroit’s music community. This is your opportunity to share what works and what needs attention in our Detroit area music scene. The census closes on March 3rd, so complete yours today!

Our Mission
GIG - The Art of Michigan Music Foundation celebrates and amplifies Michigan’s rich music culture by highlighting the visual artists who shape its creative identity. Through exhibitions, workshops, and live events, we provide a platform for photographers, graphic designers, and videographers who craft concert posters, album art, band t-shirts, logos, and music videos—essential visual elements that elevate and support Michigan’s vibrant music community.
GIG - The Art of Michigan Music Foundation is committed to preserving and enriching Michigan’s rich musical heritage while nurturing its current and future generations of visual artists.
Our Vision
We envision a future where Michigan-based visual artists who contribute to the music community are celebrated and supported. Our long-term goal is to raise funds to provide stipends for artists participating in our annual showcase, GIG - The Art of Michigan Music. By alleviating the financial barriers of art show participation, we aim to create a platform that not only highlights their work but also offers meaningful opportunities for them to connect with the public and sell their creations.
